Those who see Solomon as the author of the book would date the Song early in his reign, perhaps ca. 965 B.C. The lack of historical references in the book makes dating difficult. Those who reject Solomonic authorship point to (alleged) Persian and Greek words in the book, to certain features of the Hebrew syntax, and to words and phrases reflecting Aramaic influence.
